Stratford Courthouse series of Sunday Sippers continues in May!

WHAT TO EXPECT: Three award winning songwriters sitting around a kitchen table doing what they do at home. Playing old and new songs from their extensive solo catalogues, interspersed with their take on some classic Australian folk songs, they will make you sing, laugh and cry.

Frank Jones was a founding member of The Whirling Furphies and has also recorded four solo albums. He penned Melbourne’s iconic anthem, ‘My Brown Yarra’. Dave Steel was a founding member of Weddings Parties Anything, has released nine solo albums, received several ARIA nominations and worked as a sideman to Archie Roach for seven years. Bill Jackson’s ‘The Wayside Ballads Vol 3’ was awarded ‘Contemporary Album of the Year’ at The Australian Folk Music Awards in 2021. He has released seven solo albums and toured North America four times.

This is a show not to be missed.

Frank Jones has a lifetime of cross-genre songwriting includes five outstanding albums of his own and a multitude of songs written for and co-written with other artists. Frank has won the Lawson Paterson Songwriters’ Award (Port Fairy Folk Festival), two Labour Day Song Awards, an Apollo Bay Music Festival Song Award, and an Australian Songwriters’ Award, First Prize.

His songs have been nominated for the 2013 Aria Song of the Year, 2013 APRA Urban Song of the Year and APRA Most Played Australian Work of the Year, reaching number 8 on the 2011 JJJ Hottest 100.

BILL JACKSON:

Jackson has firmly established himself over the past few years as one of Australia’s finest Singer/Songwriters. He has released eight solo albums and toured North America four times. Steel & Bone was awarded Folk Alliance Australia; Radio Presenters Album of the Year; in 2008 and his 2011 album ‘Jerilderie’ was enthusiastically received in the marketplace, so much so that the song ‘Something in Blue’ was covered by legendary Americana artist David Olney. ‘The Wayside Ballads Vol 2’ was nominated for a Music Victoria Award in 2016 whilst his 2021 album, ‘The Wayside Ballads Vol 3’, produced by Kerryn Tolhurst was awarded ‘Contemporary Album of the Year’ at The Australian Folk Music Awards. He has just released a new album ‘1965’, again produced by Kerryn Tolhurst.

DAVE STEEL:

Dave Steel is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer with an extensive history in the roots music scene in Australia. He was a founding member of Weddings Parties Anything, has released nine solo albums, received several ARIA nominations and has worked as a sideman and session musician with many of Australia’s finest performers - including seven years with Archie Roach as an instrumentalist, as well as Rose Bygrave and Marcia Howard, amongst many others.

Dave has also toured extensively in Australia, North America, Europe and Asia. For the past twenty years he has been instrumentalist and co-producer for partner Tiffany Eckhardt. Dave has recently completed four years as a tutor in the songwriting stream of the degree course at UTAS, and he and Tiffany have relocated to Victoria .

Dave’s new album (2025) is called Wooden Music - made in the Huon Valley and a raw collection of new material from a veteran of the Australian music scene.
